SOPHIE EILEEN SMYTH
Green & Sustainable Infrastructure Finance Advisor
Ms. Smyth serves as Senior Advisor and Legal Consultant to several governmental and non-governmental initiatives on green and sustainable finance, including an international finance facility for forests being developed by the World Bank, and a nine-country sustainable infrastructure initiative being supported by the Government of Canada. As Senior Advisor to Sustainable Nation Ireland, she also works closely with the Irish Department of Finance on developing Dublin’s footprint as a European hub of global sustainable finance.
From 2007-16, Ms. Smyth served as Associate Professor of International Development Finance Law and Policy at Temple University, Beasley School of Law, where her research focused on climate finance and global trust funds. Prior to academia, she served as Senior Counsel, Finance at the World Bank for seventeen years, following four years as a trial lawyer with the US Department of Justice Civil Division, and a judicial clerkship on the US First Circuit Court of Appeals.
