"The Water Horse Project will create economic benefits for the region including other opportunities besides delivery of water including hydropower, renewable energy, and water storage.”
Hydropower systems use the kinetic energy in flowing water to produce electricity. Currently there are more than 60 operating hydropower facilities throughout Colorado with a combined installed capacity of 1,150 MW. The Colorado Department of Agriculture (CDA) has repeatedly recognized the state’s substantial untapped capacity for additional hydropower development.
Water Horse pipeline’s approximate 3,000-foot elevation drop from its highest point to points of use will create substantial opportunity in-pipe renewable energy/hydropower.
